All activities were buzzing with the launch of ChatGPT the Generative Pre-trained Transformers. The use and applications of ChatGPT was receiving great response from certain sections and not so much encouraging from certain other sectors.

Narrowing down the discussion of use of ChatGPT to the learners and teachers the outcome is highly mixed in reaction. It is expected of the students to learn effectively and some feel ChatGPT provided just that. Whatever is learnt is to be understood fundamentally.  In a chemical process the end result is the objective, but the process involved in getting that end result is essential.

ChatGPT provides sourcing of resource intelligence on all requests made on different topics. But when it comes to computational intelligence an alternative application that hit the academics is Wolfram Alpha. Wolfram Alpha satisfies all requests made on computations on different topics.

The applications like ChatGPT and Wolfram Alpha keep the distance between the learner and the teacher in distress and imbalance. More than a challenge to authority is may be looked at as a challenge to knowledge.

If the academic institutions approve the use of ChatGPT and Wolfram Alpha kind of software’s on subjective principles for assignments, they also have to emphasize to students that the role of a teacher is undeniable in education. As the saying goes “Skills learnt without a Guru will be a wasted skill” and this can be realized over a period in time.
